"Come on!" Berry ran after the scouting group. "Avon, we need to get that stone!"
"Berry! We’re not part of that group! And… The Scizor…" Avon gasped, trying to keep up.
"Just keep going!" Berry grabbed his hand pulled him along.
"Hello there." The woman spoke calmly. Despite the icy environment, she was dressed in a thin linen dress as white as the falling snow. Her sleeves were far too long, but she didn’t seem to care. She used them to brush back a few strands of her ebony hair.
"I believe you have something of mine." the words were barely a whisper, but they seemed to make the area even colder.
"Alora." Avon mumbled. "Looks like her team’s with her. Julius, Caesar, and Rhea." He glanced at Berry, but she made no response.
The Sneasel and the Poliwhirl hid in frozen bushes a distance from the main group and Alora.
"The Abomasnow, if you will." Alora spoke in her freezing tone again. Even Avon shivered.
"How about you give us the Scizorite first." The tallest human, Ezekiel, said.
"That doesn’t seem like a wise trade. We are merely exchanging stones. We wouldn’t really gain anything, except I’d have a new Pokemon." She paused to stroke the fur of her female Pyroar. "So please. The Abomasnow."
"Why would we? You have no leverage. We’ll simply find another time to get the Scizorite!" The blond, Roger cried.
"No… Leverage?" Alora tilted her head like a clueless child, but her expression was purely vacant, as if thinking about something else. Slowly, a smile formed. "Juilius…" Her eyes wandered over to her right.
The Scizor was fast. Immediately, he darted toward Avon and Berry. Berry couldn’t move out of fear, but she found herself shoved aside by Avon. Julius grabbed him in his pincers before jumping away just as swiftly.
"I’ve seen this Sneasel with your group several times… Isn’t he part of the pack I sent Julius to attack? A shame you kept him close to you, because… Julius doesn’t like unfinished business." Alora chuckled.
Avon grit his teeth, but looked over at Berry. Everything about his gaze said: “Stay there.”
"Avon… He’s supposed to be back at base." Roger muttered. "What… Do we do?"
"No choice. Send the Abomasnow over." Ezekiel sighed. He turned to the Abomasnow, gesturing for him to go over. He looked reluctant, but finally shuffled over to Alora.
"It’s nice we managed to do this without violence so far." Alora chuckled. "But… I feel like I’m taunting Julius."
"What are you talking about? Send Avon over!" Roger shouted.
"I’m sorry, but I never made a promise to do that. You probably should have made me." Alora grinned. She turned her head slightly to Julius. "Alright. You may have your fun now."
The Scizor seemed to grin. It raised its arms as its pincers began to glow.
"I find it disappointing that Scizor cannot learn Guillotine… So I taught Julius something similar!" Alora said, as if it was the latest gossip.
Berry couldn’t take it, she got up as quickly as she could. She began to run towards the two, yelling something lost in the air. Everyone except Julius turned towards her.
Avon scowled. “Berry, get out of here!” He managed.
Berry kept running.
Julius began to swing down.
"You’ve been out for an hour. Those fevers… They’re getting worse, you know." The Froakie sighed. "You’ve been flailing about a bit, so I tried to wake you up."
Berry stared at him for a few minutes. She did feel warm, but because of the dream, she was more alert. Subconsciously, she reached for her right eye. She met cloth. Brown cloth. The same scarf Avon wore. A pang of guilt hit her.
"Where’s Tyler?" She finally asked.
"Oh, yeah, you were out. Um… Blackie’s back! Beanie and Lance are here!"
